Writing content can be hard when you are just starting out. Even a seasoned veteran writer gets writer’s block sometimes. We’ve all suffered from it. Writer’s block happens to the best of us. Lots of things can contribute to it. You could be feeling uninspired or unmotivated. Maybe your well of ideas has run dry. Here are ten tips to beat the heck out of writer’s block.
1. Take a break. A ten or fifteen minute walk in the fresh air and sunshine will help to clear your head. When you get your body moving and your blood pumping, you’ll fell refreshed and ready to tackle writing again.
2. Do something that doesn’t require thought, something you do automatically. Have you ever noticed that great ideas come to you when you’re doing something menial? Sometimes inspiration can come while you’re driving, in the shower or doing laundry. If you’re having trouble finding inspiration, set it aside and do something menial. The ideas could start flowing.
3. Keep a running list of article and blog post ideas. I use a blog post schedule form and write down ideas as they come to me. I surprise myself sometimes when I start to schedule out the month’s blog posts to find that I already have a pretty thorough outline! Often I record my ideas on my phone if I’m out and about. When an idea for a blog post comes to you, write it down. Then, when you’re dealing with writer’s block you’ll have a list of ideas to draw from.
4. Pull out your favorite magazine. Magazine covers are great to use as swipe files. Grab three or four headlines from the cover of a magazine and change the words. For instance, “Ten Secrets To ______” or “Top __ Tips for ________”. Then all that’s left to do is fill in the blanks.
