Some people feel that the old school warm market list is not an effective use of your time or energy. I disagree completely. Even if you never call one-third of the people on your list it will have been well worth it.
You know a lot more people than you realize. As you start writing them down, you will think of so many people you forgot about that you will want to share your products and opportunity with.
Here’s how to create that list and why you should never leave out this very important step when getting your network marketing business started.
Go through your phone, Roledex, business cards and Facebook contacts. Make a list of everyone you can think of. Even if you don’t think they will be interested, write them on the list.
Don’t pre-judge. Maybe they can connect or refer you to someone who might be interested. Even if they are someone you won’t call, just listing them may trigger someone you should contact that they know. Don’t leave anyone off this list. You should be adding to this list regularly and revisiting it often.
Something to keep in mind with your warm market is this; there’s a saying in network marketing…
“You will either be punished or rewarded for what you did before network marketing.”
What this means is people will judge you by what you did previously. If you were a successful business person, then offering an incredible business opportunity will excite your prospects. Many will want to jump on board with you just by your reputation alone.
On the other hand if you flipped burgers for a living or you have jumped around to several network marketing companies and asked your friends, family and acquaintances to join you in every one of them, then you will be punished for your lack of success. You will lack business credibility in their eyes. They’ll tune you right out. I was once in these shoes by the way, so if that’s you, don’t fret. You’ll get past it when they see you becoming successful.
My advice in these cases is to lead with the product. They can be directed to the business after they have shown interest. Remember, this is only for your warm market of people who personally know you. I always lead with the business when talking to new people.
