Whoever wrote that song about the lazy days of summer sure never had to balance family and a home business! Working at home has a whole different set of challenges during the summer months. If you are a work at home mom or grandma you know that summer offers a lot more activities to do outside the home than any other time of year. You chose to work at home because you wanted to be available for those activities, but you are having a hard time balancing work and family activity time. Is your business getting the short end of the stick? For those who know me, you know what’s coming…Stop it! Just stop it!! You are never going to make money that way. (Whew, I always feel better after that!) I am going to share some pointers with you that will help you get more bang out of your work time so you can spend more time enjoying your family this summer.
PLR : PLR stands for Private Label Rights. If you are not familiar with PLR, you are gonna love this! There are people out there that write and put together articles, eBooks, reports and information products so you don’t have to. Yes…really! You purchase the right to use them any way you see fit. You can repurpose them over and over again for blog posts, articles, reports, audios, videos, whatever floats your boat. You can put your name on them as your own and change anything you want to make it your own style. This doesn’t mean you should stop creating content. You still need your own authentic stuff. We need to see ‘you’ in what you do, but there is nothing wrong with a little help when you need it. Purchased PLR material turned into a blog post is better than no blog post at all, don’t you agree?
Here are my favorite PLR sites. I recommend them because I know them and trust that you will get a good product and value at a surprisingly reasonable price.
Dr. Mommy Writes Professional PLR (My Favorite! you gotta love Dr. Daisy. She’s a work at home Doctor, mom and wonderful writer)
Nicole Dean, Easy PLR and Nicole Dean, Mostly Sane PLR
Here’s another tip. Block out a time to do specific tasks like writing, marketing, etc. Make sure the kids know they are not to interrupt you during this time or if that just doesn’t work, get a sitter, take them to grandma’s, put on a movie they love…well you get the drift. Figure something out. Then take the phone off the hook and set a timer and go to work. Make that time count. Don’t let anything disrupt you. Go at it for all you are worth and stay focused and on task. When the timer goes off you will be surprised how productive you were during that time. Even if it’s only in 30 minute chunks, it works!
I’ll share more tips to help you get more done in less time in the next post.
