Choosing a niche seems to be the most difficult part of starting an online business for many people, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You will want to take a look at your passions, your life experiences, and where the market is so that you can choose a niche that will be both interesting and profitable at the same time. This will enable you to have a business on the Internet that will give you great satisfaction.
Make a list of the things you love to do. This can be varied, which means you will want to include sports, hobbies, collectibles, and anything else you have fun doing. It might be something you haven’t done since you were young, like bowling, scuba diving, collecting dolls, model trains, or any of a number of things. Allow your imagination to wander as you make this list. Be sure to write down any details or specifics as well. Dig deep into your past to include everything you can about these activities. This part is supposed to be fun.
Now make another list of your life experiences. This would include jobs, careers, education, trainings, and anything else you have chosen in order to make a living. Also include life experiences you did not choose, such as having an injury or illness, dealing with a serious or life-threatening situation with a loved one, or anything else you can think of. Perhaps you were in a car accident or a natural disaster. Maybe you have a child with asthma. This all becomes a part of your life experience.
Finally, do some research to see where the market is for what you love and know. This is the ‘sweet spot’, and will be the place where you will have the most success in your online business. Go over to Google and search for the topics you have written down. You are looking to see who is an expert in each area and what they are selling. Are the products digital or physical? Look to see if there is free information of the topic.
As you can see, narrowing down your possible niches based on the things you are passionate about and the things you have experienced makes this process much easier. Continue your research and see where you will fit into this as a new online entrepreneur. There is no area that is too competitive or too saturated, so jump right in and get started.

Hi Celene and Connie
GREAT topic! I have been blogging for a few years now and REALLY have difficulty focusing on A niche. It seems I wander all over the place – partly because by the time you get to be my age you’ve had more experiences than you can count… HA!
I like your list-making idea and will certainly use that tool as I hone my niche down. Thanks lovely ladies! 😉
