We had just finished coloring in 3 year old Grandson Happy’s Sponge Bob coloring book and were sitting in the rocker snuggling while watching Blues Clues. Well, he was watching I was reflecting…
When I sadly closed my restaurant 4 years ago due to health reasons and the economy, I never dreamed that 4 years later my life would be so very different. My health has been restored, praise God. I assumed that when I was up to it, I would be going back to work somewhere, starting over, with a new employer in a job that probably wasn’t going to be a job that I wanted to do (not that I knew what I wanted to do) and making the best of it. (because we live in a very rural area with little opportunity) I would have made the best of it, because my glass is always half full. I know that God puts us where we are supposed to be so I would have bloomed where I was planted.
Anyway, I didn’t imagine that 4 years later I would be a stay at home caregiver for a grandson, who’s single parent mom need’s all the help she can get and my elderly mom who lives next door, as well. Being a stay at home caregiver was something I had never considered. I was a career woman.
How many of you have found yourselves in a similar situation? You are not able to work outside the home for whatever reason, your job has been eliminated due to the economy or by a cruel twist of fate Barbie who is 25 years younger with much less experience, ended up with your job. I could lay out a dozen other scenarios, but you get my drift.
If you are at a crossroads and find yourself at home with the need to generate an income and a desire to be your own boss, I’m living proof that it can happen for you! Working at home seemed like a dream come true for others, but not for me. What could I do online? Since starting my business online my opinion has changed. Now I know that no matter what your dream business is, it can be done online. If working from home has been a dream of yours, what are you waiting for? If you find yourself between a rock and a hard place and you need to find a way to make a living from home, internet opportunities are unlimited! Everything from network marketing opportunities, affiliate marketing (where you promote other peoples products), photography, crafting, virtual assistant (kind of like an online secretary or personal assistant), information marketing, consulting, promotion and marketing, online cooking classes, pet care, support groups or anything else you can think of. If you don’t have a skill you think you can make a business out of, this is the age of information, you can learn one. In yesterday’s post What’s Your Business Model? My mentor Carrie Wilkerson talks about some of the different models for online businesses. Take heart, there is a place for you online. Get creative, look around and see what others are doing, look for a need in the marketplace. Here’s a post from Nicole Dean’s blog this week that proves this point beautifully. There are many really good caring teachers and mentor out there to help you learn how.
For example; my business models are teaching and training beginner internet marketers, information marketing and affiliate marketing. I teach women over 50 who want to work at home, but don’t know where to start or how to go about it. Because I have gone though the hassle of learning the process and the technical issues our age group gets tripped up on, I can relate to those needs and special issues. I also use affilate marketing as another steam income by suggesting good products to my community that will help them in their online business or teach them to learn new or to improved skill sets.
What can you do? I’m here to tell you that if you find yourself in a situation that requires you to find a way to make a living from home, you can do it. You can! I’m living proof. There’s never been a better time. History has proven time and time again that bad economic times produce exceptional opportunities for entrepreneurs. Working from home is not only a means to an income, it’s a fulfilling, fun and gratifying experience. It allows time freedom to work around the responsibilities of life as well as time to play. Yes, it does take work, determination and a little time, but it’s so worth it. I love my job. I love my life. I’m so grateful to be able to be the one who helps raise my grandson instead of strangers and I’m grateful to be here to help my mother at this time in her life. If I worked outside the home, I couldn’t give either the time they deserve and I’d kill myself trying.
I didn’t know how to build a business online a few years ago, but I learned. So can you. I’m here to tell you that if I can do this, you can do this. Don’t let fear paralyze you. Ask for help. Take action. What are you waiting for?
