Stop Wasting Time!

Guest Post by Stacey Myers

Stop-wasting-time-StaceyMyersIndecision is the mother of all time wasting.  When starting a business there are so many things to consider. The right URL, the right theme, the right plugins, the right cover image, the right picture, the right ….. the list goes on!

These conversations can run around in your mind for way too long and before you know it you have been completely stopped for weeks, months and even years and taken no action whatsoever.

Let’s address a few of these:

Having the right URL – When I first started online I was offering life coach services and my website was ExpertMotivator.com. What soon happened was that when I went to write a blog I started asking myself if what I was going to write about actually fitted in with the theme of ‘Expert Motivator’. Sometimes it did but sometimes it didn’t. It soon became a big problem because I would spend way to long contemplating if it was a fit, instead of just writing.

I ended up moving my site to StaceyMyers.com. As my business morphs and changes over the time I don’t need to worry if it fits with the URL – of course it does, it is still all me. I can guarantee that your business will change – the overall topic may stay the same but the content and who your market is will probably change over time as you get clearer about who it is you want to work with.

If you don’t want to use your name that is fine too, but just pick something and go with it. You can always change it later. Even if you change the name later you don’t have to build a whole new site – you can just change the name of the one you have now and keep all the content, images and other information.

Just get started – the longer you worry about the detail the longer it will take you to get moving and the more you will lose confidence and enthusiasm in your ability to do it.

Having the right tagline – This is one of the biggest time wasters I know of.  Some businesses never have a tagline and they seem to get along just fine. The tagline is also going to change as your business changes.  If you are desperate to have a tagline then use one that you like for now, knowing that it will probably change over time.

Having the right theme – I am going to add the right cover image, the right picture and all those other ones in here.

I personally use Headway Theme and I really like it. It is drag and drop and great for the beginner, but has the capabilities inbuilt for people that know about HTML and CSS (which, by the way, I do not). It is a paid theme. There are benefits to paid themes over free themes but while you are looking around at which paid theme you might like to use a free theme is great.

Again, this is not the theme or the cover image I used when I first started. They original ones were great for me when I started, but as I became more experienced and started to get a feel for how I liked to work I changed themes. When you change themes you do not lose any of the content, it is just how it looks that changes. Also, if you change it and you don’t like it, it is easy enough to go back to what you originally had.

There are literally thousands of free WordPress themes out there to choose from. Pick one, or you could even use the default one that comes with WordPress to get started!

I just want to add a little caveat here – I am definitely not saying to just throw up some rubbish site and get cracking.  You will want it to look professional and a place that people want to come back and visit. I know that you wouldn’t, but I wanted to make sure I said it.

Do you feel like you are wasting time and not getting the results you were hoping for in your business? I am talking about why it is not your fault in my upcoming free webinar on 8th May.  Grab your seat here!

What is it that you feel you are wasting your time on? I would love to hear about it in the comments section below.

Did you miss me? Let’s catch up…‏

medium_5265027340Gosh, it’s been a while since you’ve heard much from me. Here’s why… I was sick with the respiratory flu the entire month of December (34 days straight – I even with a flu shot!) and really didn’t work much.

On top of that, my 87 year old mom is a severe diabetic and has gotten an ulcer on her foot. I’ve taken her back and forth every couple of days to the doctor, but it’s not healing. If you know anything about this sort of thing, you know if we don’t get it healed it could eventually cause a loss of limb.  We will have to travel 60+ miles each way, multiple times per week for who knows how long. So your prayers will be appreciated.

I’m so grateful that I am an entrepreneur who works from home and calls the shots. So appreciative that I can do this for my mom without worrying about a boss breathing down my neck or fear of losing my J-O-B. That’s what being a Happypreneur means to me.

==> I hope you’ll hit reply and tell me what being a Happypreneur means to you.  I’d love to feature your answer on my blog and social media with a link back to your blog.

best2012 was a very good year here at The Happypreneur.  The best!

Readership has tripled.  My list has tripled as well and my income really took off this year.  I started a new private coaching program, hired an amazing life coach and a top notch kick butt business coach.

I’m so looking forward to what 2013 has in store. It’s exciting times we Happypreneurs live in. Very exciting.  15 years ago we couldn’t even imagine being able to quit our jobs, work from home on the computer and decide for ourselves when we work and how much money we make.

Blogging has played a huge role in in our businesses. It’s how our audience gets to know like and trust us. It’s one of the most important business tools today.

Here are a few of The Happypreneur’s best of for 2012… [Read more...]

So how do you balance blogging, social media, article marketing, promotions, emails, and all the other things you do for your business every day along with all of the extra things pulling at your time?

Sometimes it’s so hectic things become a blur of activities.

Baby Are You On Googles Spammer Hit List?

Yep, maybe I’m on that list, too.  Many accidental spammers are on Google’s radar these days. Gone is the time when we would get away with lot’s of duplicate content out there in the web-o-shpere.

One of the big ways to get on Google’s Spammer hit list is to have your content pinged by too many pinging services.  This causes too many duplicate pings, a red flag to Google since their Panda update, cracking down on too much poor quality duplicate content out there. [Read more...]

I Tried To Think But Nothing Happened…

Are you having a hard time writing articles and blog posts? Now matter how hard you try, you draw a blank.

You stare at your computer screen and wonder how the heck successful bloggers do it?

Let me ask you this, do you get so hung up on keyword research and SEO that when you write, the words just don’t flow naturally?

I was taught that keywords are king and SEO was a must in everything you do online.

Now don’t get me wrong, both are important, but when you make them more important than writing for your readers, that’s where the trouble begins. [Read more...]

Technophobes Just Chill Out – Your Making Your Online Biz Way Too Hard

My words of wisdom from one technophobe to another… just chill!

When taking your offline business online or when starting a new internet business, the technology can be daunting.  Actually it can totally freak you out. It did me.

When I first started online, I knew nothing about technology.  I could check my email and use MS Works.  That was it. I can remember how my shoulders hurt from being hunched over my keyboard for 14 hours a day, muscles all tight because I was stressed trying to figure out how to get a grip on all the technology needed to build my online biz.  I made it so much harder than it had to be. You’re Gonna Publish A Kindle Book Today! Yay!

This is the day!  The one you’ve been working towards all week.

No, not Friday, ya goof!  It’s the day you are going to publish your Kindle book.  Yippee!  You’re gonna be a published author.

If you are just now joining us and missed the rest of the series, here it is:

I’m pretty much self taught.  When I started online I spent 2 years figuring out the technology of how to build my business before I even started to grow it. I don’t have a tech background so I had to figure out how to make everything work as simply as I could.

Now I help you to start-up and build your business online as easily as possible so you don’t get mired down in technology.  You don’t want you to spend 14 hours a day in front of your computer.  You want to work on your business when you want to and still  have have the time freedom and money to spend time with your family and go play.

That’s why I took this week to show you the easiest way to publish a Kindle book.  Now I’m going to show you how easy it is to load everything and set it up on Amazon.

I created a video to walk you though the process.  Follow along and see how easy it really is… [Read more...]
