More Cross Blog Conversation With SoloSmarts Kelly McCausey: Where’d You Get The Idea For Happy Headshots?

cross blog conversation

Kelly McCausey and I have been having a Cross Blog Conversation the past few days.

It started here, when I asked her about the longevity and success of Solo Masterminds. She answered me over at Solo Smarts where she then asked me this question:

Celene, a recent topic at Solo Masterminds was the launch of your new project, Happy Headshots.  I’d like to hear where the idea for that comes from and how you plan to leverage this as part of your overall business.  Do share!

Here’s what I said to that:

How fun is this! I’m really enjoying our CBC Kelly!

I was playing with some new software when I discovered that it could change up photographs.  Actually my grandson and I were playing around making our photos look all kinds of silly and fun. He thought it was hysterical! Honestly, I thought of this new tool as a toy, not taking it too seriously.

Then one day I decided it was way past time to change out my profile picture on social media networks, my blog, etc.  Unfortunately, I’m one of those people who are not very photogenic. I just couldn’t find a good headshot in any of my pictures.  I did come across one that was OK, but not great. Then it hit me – what if I could use that software for good and not evil?    So I started playing around with it and came up with what I thought was a pretty good headshot for my profile picture.

I put it up on Facebook and was astonished when I received 52 comments and likes from friends who said they loved my new profile picture! The cool thing is that the picture looks like me, only better. That’s why it was so popular, the finished product looks very natural and authentic, it’s not a foo-foo fakey looking glamor shot.

That’s when it hit me like a rock. What a great service to offer my Happypreneurs!  How long had it taken me to replace my profile pic because I take lousy photos? As a business coach, I know the importance of keeping things fresh, so I knew better.

How many times have I told some of my coaching clients to no avail, that their kids and cats just don’t cut it for a profile pic? Unfortunately one of the things that I see often with new solopreneurs is the lack of confidence or image issues that keep them from really putting themselves out there. Gosh, if I had problems finding a photo that I liked well enough to use, how much harder is it for newbies who haven’t gotten any momentum or confidence in themselves in social media yet?

That’s how the idea was born.  Of course “Happy” Headshots was perfect for branding as part of The Happypreneur Network. HappyHeadshots.com just launched last week and BAM! It’s a hit already. It’s very gratifying to see how confident my clients are now because of their new headshots. I know because Fluffy’s photos have been replaced with their new smiling Happy Headshot! It’s amazing what a few smoother skin and brighter eyes and smile can do for your self esteem. My clients love it and so do I.  After all I’m not just the owner of Happy Headshots, I’m a client too! ;-)

And that’s the story of how Happy Headshots came to be. Thanks for asking Kelly.

Now it’s your turn, to keep the conversation going, Kelly.  This is something I’d like to know…

I’ve often heard you say often that you have a 42 day launch window for your new products.  Why not 2 weeks or 31 days? How did you come up with 42 days to launch a new product? Can’t wait to hear you answer!

Be watching for the answer over at Kelly’s blog.

Hey Kelly, How’d You Get Started With SoloMasterminds? (Starting A Cross Blog Conversation)

cross blogging

I’ve wanted to have a Cross Blog Conversation with my friend, Kelly McCausey, of Solosmarts.com for a while now.  Kelly is not just a friend, she’s my mentor as well.  I learn something new about running my online business almost daily from her. She’s one smart cookie and I know you will learn so much from her too!

If you don’t know what a CBC is, you can read about Cross Blog Conversations here.

They’re a great way to have fun and generate interesting content for your readers.

So here we go…

Kelly, I love, love, love being in your Solomasterminds coaching group.  It’s so cool to be able to ask for advice and get coaching from experts like you, Lynette Chandler, Bob “The Teacher” Jenkins and Melissa Ingold to name a few. I’m so glad I joined.  What amazes me is you started this program in what, 2004?  And it continues to grow bigger and stronger than ever! Most programs start to fizzle after a while, but not this one.

I’m wondering how you got started with SoloMasterminds -  what was your original intent and how has it evolved over the years?

What’s your secret for SoloMastermind’s longevity and popularity?

I’ll keep an eye out for your reply! ;-)

Celene

Hey Happypreneurs – stay tuned for the next post in this Cross Blog Conversation!

How To Get More Blog Traffic From Twitter

cool-twitter-icons-freeTo be honest,  Twitter isn’t my favorite social media network.  It’s too much like texting –  I just don’t have much to say that can be said in so few words.  To me Twitter is like that.  It’s not easy for me to engage and get to know people 140 characters at a time.  While it is not my favorite, it’s the favorite of many of my prospects and clients so I need to be there.

The Happypreneur gets a fair amount of blog traffic from Twitter. I must admit it’s not because of my charm, good looks and witty banter. Nope I owe a lot of that Twitter traffic to a few things. Wanna know what they are?

Triberr

Triberr is a reciprocal blog curation site where you share your blog posts (on autopilot) with fellow Tribe members who then share them on Twitter. Then of course you do the same.  There is even a WordPress plugin that shows your tribal stream in your WP dashboard with social media share buttons built right in! Super simple and really send blog traffic you way.

Now Triberr isn’t a set it and forget it kind of tool.  You need to be a bit active in your tribes and in searching out new tribes to join. You can’t just join any old tribe you want either. You must be invited by the tribal leaders in order to join them.  If your blog is active and you comment a few times on blog posts in Triberr, this will happen naturally.

You can also be a Tribal Leader and start your own Tribes.   It’s a bit of a learning curve to really participate in Triberr the way it was meant to be used, but it’s well worth it!

Here is less than 24 hours (over Easter Sunday and early Monday) on a slow day of the tweets I get from Triberr members…

triberr

And here is a quick SlideShare presentation (I am not recommending these people, I don’t know them at all) I came across for you. Take a look…

(Please disregard the misspelling on these slides. Triberr is one b and 2 r’s. I did not make this slide.)
In short, Triberr is definitely worth you time and effort.

Tweet Old Post

Tweet Old Posts is an easy way to shoot your blog posts into your Twitter stream.  It is a WordPress plugin that selects your past blog posts randomly and tweets them for you with the title and a link back to the post. You can set and forget this one.  It allows you do deselect posts you do not want tweeted as well as how old or new you want them to be.

Hootsuite

This is my Social Media management tool of choice.  I love Hootsuite!  It enables me to keep all of my favorite social media networks in one place on one dashboard.  I can tweet, comment and update to my hearts content from one central location.  Check it out…

hootsuite

It’s a little hard to see from this image, I have my main Twitter feed, my favs, mentions, sent tweets, and DM streams all side by side so I can see what’s going on all the time.  I also have my Facebook biz page and Facebook personal page as well as my Linked in account set up the same way.

You can also schedule your tweets, posts and updates to go out in the future. I schedule several things a day to go out then I pop in to respond and engage in real time several times a day.  This enables me to be seen a lot without being sucked into the black hole that social media can become if you are not careful.

hootsuite

And you can save tweets and posts to draft and re-use them again! I do this with a lot of my opt in offers.

hootsuite

So, there you have it. Some of my best tricks to get more blog traffic from Twitter.

I’d love to hear yours! Please leave a comment.

xoxo

Blog Content That Grows Your Circle Of Influence

blog content, content creation

Some of my coaching clients come to me before they’ve built a blog and others after they have they have one all set up and ready to go.  You see, to some the blog setup isn’t the problem, oftentimes my clients have problems filling that blank site with content.

While many turn to PLR to populate niche sites, that’s not really the answer if this blog is your main site – your home on the internet. I’m not saying don’t ever use PLR, I’m saying don’t use it a lot.  The problem with PLR is while it’s often good stuff made better by your personalizing and tweaking, unless you rewrite it all, you can’t use it on article directories and Google isn’t as forgiving about duplicate PLR content across the web anymore.

Google is changing how they do things.

Content, authority and authorship is now the name of the game.

It’s really important that at least 30-50% of the content on your site is your original content in my opinion, unless you are stickily an authority site like The Huffington Post.  Honestly, I don’t remember where I heard that, but it makes perfect sense because of the changes over at Google. And since Google – with Google + and You Tube just to name a few, is top dawg on the web, it only makes sense to do things their way when you can.

With content that you’ve written, not only do your readers get to know your flavor and style, helping them decide whether they want to spend their money with you or not, you can reuse it in dozens of ways all over the place. By writing much of your own content, you will soon be seen as an expert in your niche.

How to become an authority with blog content…

Write, write, write – curate, curate, curate!  What do I mean by that? Well, the writing part is pretty obvious. Content curation is a little different, not to mention it’s easier than writing! Basically it means compiling information on your site for the purpose of serving your clients needs.  Of course that means it needs to be very relevant to your blog and readers.  I do this on my blog in the Happypreneur Shorts section.  I share content that I believe will add value and be a benefit to you.

It isn’t all about me, it’s all about YOU.

I know this will be a shock to you, but I don’t know it all. I know lots, but there are other people out there with more answers than I’ve got. That’s why curation is so cool.  I use it as a means to supply the answers you are looking for (whether you’ve asked the question yet or not), to populate my site with valuable content that benefits you, to set myself up as the authority in my niche – “the source”,  and to increase my online presence.

Curation gives me more blog content and more to share on social media, plus I get noticed by the content creators who’s content I’m sharing. So, it’s not just populating my blog, it’s marketing at it’s finest.

So, it’s OK to use some PLR on your site, but you must do some of the writing and some curation.

xoxo

3 More Tips To Increase Your Blog Traffic Really Really Fast

increase your blog traffic

Today’s post is part 2 of my blog series on how to increase your blog traffic fast.  I told you about how my traffic dropped crazy fast in the first post, along with 3 tips on how I revive my blog traffic quickly.  Here are 3 more of the fast acting traffic tips I used to get my traffic back in 2 weeks.

1.  Participate in a Fire Sale, Teleseminar or Niche Appropriate Fund Raiser

All of these will send traffic to your blog as well as add to your email list. I recently participated in a Fire Sale hosted by Kelly McCausey for a friend who needed help raising money to be able to move from her “sick” apartment to a healthy home.  This has resulted in 320 new visits to my blog, 198 new  Happypreneur members added to my sales funnel, my list and hopefully blog readership. I believe this number will grow over the weeks as many more participated that have not collected their merchandise yet.

2.  Host a free webinar

Hosting a webinar is not nearly as scary as it sounds.  There are lots of services out there that make it pretty simple. The one I am currently using is Meeting Burner.  It’s pretty straight forward and inexpensive.   However, I recommend no matter what service you use, that you really practice with it before inviting your list to a webinar, just to work the kinks out.

Offering a free webinar is a great way to create interest in your blog.  This works in a couple of ways.  First, you can collect names and email addresses to grow your list at the same time you drive traffic to your blog, buy putting up an opt in page on your blog for your guests to register to attend the webinar.

You can also post the link to join the webinar on your site and drive traffic there in order to access the webinar. If you record the webinar you can post it on YouTube, embed it on you blog and post the link to it on social media, sending even more traffic your way.

3.  Facebook Event

Creating a Facebook event can really drive traffic to your blog in a big way! I held a virtual mortgage burning party and invited my Facebook friends by creating an event, then promoted the event by posting about it often and then using the “promote this post” feature on Facebook. It cost me $7.00 to promote my post for 3 days.  I sent people back to my blog to register for the party.  This stirred up a good bit of traffic. You could do this with a podcast, webinar, training class, teleseminar or Google Hangout.

As you can see, there are a number of pretty simple things you can do to drive traffic to your blog quickly. It takes a little effort, but it can be done.  Be sure to watch for the next post in this series.

If you have a good tip to drive traffic, we’d love it if you’d share with us.

Thanks for reading!

How To Dramatically Increase Your Blog Traffic Really Really Fast!

increase your blog traffic

This post could have been more aptly named  (take deep breath here…) “How to dramatically increase blog traffic, page views, new visitors to your website, increase time spent on your site and lower your bounce rate really really fast with these simple strategies”.  But that was a little long for a title, even though that’s exactly what these strategies did for me in less than a 2 week period. Like I said, really really fast! [Read more...]

Did you miss me? Let’s catch up…‏

medium_5265027340Gosh, it’s been a while since you’ve heard much from me. Here’s why… I was sick with the respiratory flu the entire month of December (34 days straight – I even with a flu shot!) and really didn’t work much.

On top of that, my 87 year old mom is a severe diabetic and has gotten an ulcer on her foot. I’ve taken her back and forth every couple of days to the doctor, but it’s not healing. If you know anything about this sort of thing, you know if we don’t get it healed it could eventually cause a loss of limb.  We will have to travel 60+ miles each way, multiple times per week for who knows how long. So your prayers will be appreciated.

I’m so grateful that I am an entrepreneur who works from home and calls the shots. So appreciative that I can do this for my mom without worrying about a boss breathing down my neck or fear of losing my J-O-B. That’s what being a Happypreneur means to me.

==> I hope you’ll hit reply and tell me what being a Happypreneur means to you.  I’d love to feature your answer on my blog and social media with a link back to your blog.

Blogging has played a huge role in in our businesses. It’s how our audience gets to know like and trust us. It’s one of the most important business tools today.

Baby Are You On Googles Spammer Hit List?

Yep, maybe I’m on that list, too.  Many accidental spammers are on Google’s radar these days. Gone is the time when we would get away with lot’s of duplicate content out there in the web-o-shpere.

One of the big ways to get on Google’s Spammer hit list is to have your content pinged by too many pinging services.  This causes too many duplicate pings, a red flag to Google since their Panda update, cracking down on too much poor quality duplicate content out there. [Read more...]
